Good Bridge Community - Update

Join us for our weekly lunch meeting Tuesdays in Breckenridge at Fatty's Pizzeria (106 South Ridge Street) 12pm MT.

Speaker:  Raychel Kelly
Good Bridge Community: Building Good Relationships with individuals and organizations, to bridge the gaps of economic struggle and help uplift people to self reliance. Through a 360 view we inspire to create a more just world and prosperous experience, in the gift of life for All.
Breaking down stigma's / Strengthen existing resources / Developing ones that do not exist

Raychel & Dan came and shared their stories, vision, and progress with us on 2/19.  We are inviting them back in May to give us an update on their progress and to continue the interesting conversation that we began during this meeting.  One thing that I noticed was there was a lot of interest from our club members, and a lot of people know someone in one area of the spectrum of homelessness in this county.  It's a challenging topic with a lot of different view points, so we welcome Raychel back to continue to explore it with us!

Colorado National Popular Vote Interstate Compact

Speaker:  Sylvia Bernstein, Co-Chair for Colorado NPV

Last month, when Governor Polis signed SB42, Colorado joined the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact.  This moves us closer to a direct election of the U.S. President without eliminating the Electoral College or altering the Constitution.  Colorado joins 13 other states and the District of Columbia in this Compact, which won’t go into effect until enough states to represent a majority of the Electoral College votes (270) have joined.  Currently 189 Electoral College votes are committed.

Sylvia represents a grassroots group that has formed to share with our fellow Coloradans how the Compact works, what problems it solves, and how it benefits all of us.  This is a non-partisan program about the National Popular Vote.  One of the group's key members, former Colorado Rep. Joe Miklosi, was also a Rotarian for eight years in Highlands Ranch.

District Governor Curt Harris

Join us for our weekly lunch meeting Tuesdays in Breckenridge, upstairs at Fatty's Pizzeria (106 South Ridge Street) 12pm MT.

We are very excited to hear from our new District Governor this week!

Harris has been a member of the Rotary Club of Evergreen for nearly twenty years. He served as the club’s President in 2000-01, and has been the club’s International Service Chair, Legacy Project Chair and the club foundation’s President. For the past two years, Curt has served as the Area 8 Assistant Governor.

Harris has been involved with fundraising efforts that have raised over $400,000 to support medical facilities in northern Tanzania. Most recently, Curt had the pleasure to lead another climb (his fourth) of Africa’s Mount Kilimanjaro which included five Tanzanian women in support of women’s education in Tanzania. He is currently organizing another Kilimanjaro climb in early 2018 which will include four Tanzanian women.

Curt’s other Rotary passion is RYLA, where in 2002, he helped develop the first Young RYLA program and served as the second Young RYLA Chair in 2003. Since 2007, he has been involved with RYLA, serving as Chair three times and currently serves as the Treasurer of Rocky Mountain RYLA. In 1979, Curt began a career with the local FirstBank, during which time he held many different positions including Auditor, Chair of the Credit Administration Department, Chairman of the Loan Committee, Compliance Officer and Bank President. He has also served on various non-profit boards including the Seniors’ Resource Center Yellow House Advisory Committee, the Mountain Area Land Trust and Arapahoe House. Since his retirement in 2001, he has been an active climber, hiker and skier. Curt and wife Barb have three children and five very entertaining grandchildren. We're extremely proud to call Curt Harris one of our own.
